How to reduce stress

We're all under a lot of stress everyday with due dates and schedules and we can't just ignore that,

because it's slowing us down. If you're always worried about the future, how can you reach it, right?

This post is for all the students and the persons who work a lot and are under a lot of pressure.

First, I'm going to tell you what you can do to prevent being stressed out, and then I'm going to give you tips to calm down once you're stressed.


1. Work out

Since I've started workout out, I have felt a lot less stressed out about school. You could feel happier, sleep better, feel more energized, increase your strength and flexibility, improve your memory, increase your confidence, perform better at work, etc. If you want to know where I found out all this stuff, go to

2. Drink less caffeine

Drinking too much coffee can make you anxious, because, while caffeine is known to increase alertness, if you take too much, the effects may become more pronounced and make you anxious. For more information, go to

3. Keep a journal

It's hard to talk about our problems to someone, but it's easier to just write them down, isn't it? It may be hard at first to remember to write about your day, but if you place your journal in a place you can see everyday, it may help. Just put it on your night stand with a pen.

4. Have a agenda/planner

If you're stressed about your schedule, you NEED to have an agenda/planner to be informed when you have something to do. It really helps to have things written down, especially if you carry it everywhere.

5. Prepare things in advance

Instead of spending all morning deciding what you're going to wear during the day and what you're going to eat for lunch, you should prepare your things the night before.

6. Eat foods that reduce stress

Here are a few foods you should eat to reduce your stress level:

  • avocado

  • lemon

  • dark chocolat

  • almonds

  • oatmeal

  • asparagus

  • berries

  • cashews

  • chamomile tea

  • garlic

  • oranges, etc.

7. Take walks

It feels really good just to take a long and peaceful walk after a long and stressful day. If you don't have time to take walks on weekdays, only take a long walk per week on weekends.

8. Have social activities

One of my resolution is to do at least one social activity per week. I usually don't hang out with friends that often on weekends, because of all the homeworks I have. It's so fun to just be with friends and let loose a little, be yourself.

9. Yoga and meditation

You know all those things they say about yoga and how fulfilling it is? It's not crazy talk, yoga has actually helped a lot of people manage their stress. If you're not sure about doing yoga, go to and look up some yoga routines on Pinterest.

How to calm down

1. Listen to music

Take your headphones and put your favorite music on, it's as simple as taking candy from a baby and works like a charm! My favorite song to listen when I'm feeling anxious is Ooh Child by The Five Stairsteps.

2. Find 5 things you can see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste

3. Count

When I'm really stressed and I can't focus, I start counting things of the same category. For example, I count the number of flowers surrounding me. If there's not much to count, I start doing multiplication like 2*2=4, 4*4=16, 16*16= 256, etc.

4. Relax your body

I've realised that when I'm anxious, I really want to move and I start playing with my fingers and it just doesn't help at all, so I just take a big breath, close my eyes, stay still and relax my muscles.

5. Place your hands on your face

Make a bowl out of your hands and place them on your face to feel like you're in your own little bubble. Use your fingers to massage your scalp, because when humans are touched, we tend to relax. You could also run your fingers through your hair.

The most important thing to do to reduce your stress is to make yourself happy, enjoy the little things and don't focus on the bad side. I have a challenge for you: do minimum one thing per day to make you happy. You can drink tea, do yoga, take a bath, read a book or do whatever you want to do.
